I must be honest - I just can't get excited about the history of moveable books. I flunked history at 'O' level and I still don't get it. Almost all of my books are from the 1960's onward. Ancient history to my 19 year old daughter, quite contempory to me. But if that kind of thing interests you I'll leave it to the experts:
The University of Delaware Library put on exhibition in 1998 titled THE WORLD OF THE CHILD which featured this section on Moveable and Pop-up Books.
The University of Virginia Library hold the collection of Dr Brenda Forman. These can be viewed at POP GOES THE PAGE. This has books from 1858 onward including the Blue Ribbon and Bookano series.
Ann Montanero is one of the foremost authorities in the world on moveable books. Her treatise, A CONCISE HISTORY OF POP-UP AND MOVEABLE BOOKS provides a good, readable history of the subject if that's what turns you on. it also leads to 'The Pop-up World of Anne Montanero', an on-line exhibition from The Rutger University Libraries of New Jersey.
